Operation of FileZilla for Windows, process of installation:

1) Firstly you need to make sure that your user’s account permits to execute any administrative operations and installation of software.

Choose the installation language

The language of installation is to be chosen from the list you will see, to continue the process of installation you need to press OK.

2) Agree to the conditions of the licence agreement

You will see the window with the text of the licence agreement. Read this text attentively and tick the option “I agree” to continue the installation of the program.

3) Choice of FileZilla components to be installed

You will see the list with all program components which can be installed on your computer. To get to know the purpose of a component just pass the mouse on it as it’s shown on the picture. Look through the functions of all components in the list, choose those you want to install. We would not recommend to refuse installation of the language package FileZilla, shortcuts for the Start menu and the desktop to start the client quickly, debug files which will be useful for the client diagnosis in case of its crash.

4) Location for installation of your new FTP-client

Choose the location where you wish to install FileZilla. If the standard version is acceptable for you, simply press “continue”.

Note: Installing the client on a USB data storage device or any other portable device specify the path to this device. In addition to that choose the XML-file to store the program settings in order to prevent their loss in case of a transfer.

5) Folder for shortcuts in the Start menu

Even having refused installation of these shortcuts you will have to name the folder for their location anyway. If you don’t mind to accept the default name simply press “continue” and proceed to the next stage of the installation. At this very stage you may also refuse to have shortcuts in the Start Menu.

6) Completion of the Filezilla client installation

By pressing “continue” you come to the final of the program installation. If no errors occurred during installation, the process will complete in several seconds. Press “close” and finish the installation of the manager Filezilla. We congratulate you with the successful installation! Now you need to proceed to the program activation.

7) Archived version of the program FileZilla

Installation process from an archive is absolutely clear to those who know how to handle with archives, files and directories in the operating system Windows. For installation unpack the downloaded file to preliminarily chosen location on disk, for example here: "C:\Program Files\FileZilla", then start the the executable file filezilla.exe. Creation of a shortcut for the file is a good idea – you may place it on your desktop, on the quick launch panel or in the Start Menu.

If you install the FTP-client on a USB device or any other data storage device it’s enough to unpack and copy the directory where FileZilla is located to your device, because the program always uses the specified XML-file for storage of its settings. Here you may find more detailed information.

8) Program installation in the system Mac OS X

You need to know that for the official archive of FileZilla OS X 10.5 or a higher one is required.

For installation of FileZilla it’s obligatory to download the corresponding file on your computer. Most of the MACs, produced after 2006, work on Intel processors, so you better download an archive for Intel architecture.

If you have got processor G4 or G5, PowerPC package will help you. Do you doubt? Try Intel first then.

In case of the distributive kit downloading with help of Safari, you may expect its automatic unpacking. But if you used another browser you could already unpack the archive manually. To activate FileZilla click twice on the unpacked package with the new client.

9) Installation for systems GNU/Linux, Unix and other systems similar to Unix

You’d better use the packaged manager of the distributive you apply.

If you use a GNU/Linux distributive, it will be better to apply executable files compiled in advance. Having installed the files to the location you need, simply activate the executable file of FileZilla in subdirectory bin/. It is necessary to note that distributives of this OS vary considerably, so the specified archive may not be appropriate for operation on your system.

In this case compile FileZilla from the sources.

The compilation process of the program can be found here.

Instructions for compilation can be read here.

Manager FileZilla activation

The program is activated at a double-click of the file filezilla.exe (by default it’s placed here: "C:\Program Files\FileZilla\filezilla.exe) or click twice on any shortcut – on the desktop or in the Start Menu if you chose to install them in the very beginning. In addition, you can apply command-line options.
